The intermediate snail host

Oncomelania hupensis serves as intermediate snail host of Schistosomiasis japonnicum. In schistosoma life cycle, its larvae, for example, miracia and cercaria may live in body of snail, so, the snail is turned into the intermediate host of schistosoma. The adult shell of Oncomelania snail is turreted, translucent, brownish-yellow, smooth or ribbed, with six or seven whorls, 3-10 mm in height and with open umbilicus.
