The 10th RNAS+ Workshop

The 10th RNAS+ Workshop

And Training course on Climate Changes and Dynamic Transmission Modeling

15 - 19 November, 2010,Wuxi, PR China

Background and objectives

Ten years ago, the Regional Network on Asian Schisosomiasis and Other Helminth Zoonoses (RNSA+) were established with a lot of support from different international agencies and efforts from scientists in the world. In order to celebration the 10th anniversary of RNAS+, the 10th workshop of RNAS+ will be held in Wuxi, PR China where was the birthplace of the Regional Network on Asian Schistosomiasis (RNAS) which was proposed to set up the network in the event of the International Symposium on Schistosomiasis Control held in 1998.

Two major activities related to the workshop, one is the 10th annual meeting of RNAS+ held on November 15-16, 2010, the other one is the training course on climate changes and dynamic transmission modeling held on November 17-19, 2010.

The 10th Annual Meeting of RNAS+

This year’s annual meeting on November 15-16, 2010 is expected to review the progress of the RNAS+, with an important cerebration evening, followed by the board member meeting of RNAS+.

Specific meeting objectives

  • Update and discussion on the progress in the control and research in the RNAS+ targeted diseases in each member country.
  • Discuss the future collaboration opportunities, and research challenges.
  • Formulate a work plan of the RNAS for next and following 2 years.

The Training Course

The training course on climate changes and dynamic transmission modeling, on November 17-19, 2010, will invite excellent experts to give the lectures on two relevant topics, one is climate changes related to the epidemiology of the RNAS+ targeted diseases, the other one is modeling the transmission dynamics of the RNAS+ targeted diseases. More exercises on computer by using GIS technology and modeling will be arranged in the training course. We are expecting about 30 junior scientists could be participated all lectures and computer exercises in the training course.

Logistics

The National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, China CDC and Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Peoples’ Republic of China will host this workshop inWuxi, PR China. Participants will include board members of theRNAS+, International Advisors, and yong scientists in the member countries. We are specifically invite delegates from sister networks, the Regional Network on Schistosomiasis Africa (RNSA), to participate all events of the workshop, in order to exchange the experiences on networking, and explore the further south-south collaboration.
