The memorandum of the 2nd RNAS meeting

After very hard work in the past one and half days, it has been a good meeting, which is efficient sucessful and productive as we expected. The RNAS working group highly evaluated the taaendance and essetial contributions made by the leaders from WHO, MOH China and Jiagnsu provincial government, and international advisors and experts, and greatly appricated the constructive efforts made by one colleagues coming from Philippines, Denmark, Australias, USA, Japan, Indonisia and various parts of China. There are 38 participants attended the meeting, among them 14 are from foreign counties, and 24 from China. Following the highly enthusiastic messages, delighted by speakers respectively, WHO, MOH and provincial government during the opening session, the working report and lecture session turned out very informative and updated. 15 presentations covered various important issues of common interests in the region in schistosomiasis research and control, which are highlighted as following: 

The y-2 RNAS project progress was reviewed, it is noticed that the regional network has been established and growing in a good shape through the 1st working group meeting, improved network homepage, and extensive information exchange, in short, the RNAS the experts in schistosomiasis control in the region thinking together and working together. I believe that a functioning network is one of our major results of the project, and it is the difference made by this project supported by WHO/TDR.

The current status and strategy for schistosomiasis in China is elustrated that in 108 out of 413 endemic countries, schistosomiasis transmission still remains after 50 years control efforts, and that different strategies are formulated for different types of endemic regions with different prospectives in near future.
